WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?
Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure which a tooth–colored resin is used to improve the appearance of a tooth. The resin is applied to the tooth and then hardened with a light. Bonding can be used to improve the color, shape, and size of a tooth. It can also be used to close gaps between teeth. It is used to fix cavities and cracked or broken teeth. It improves the look of your teeth and makes you feel better about yourself.
It is similar to porcelain veneers. The difference between porcelain veneers and bonding is that veneers are applied to the front surface of the teeth while tooth bonding, on the other hand, is applied to a much smaller portion of the tooth.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
- Bonding is a relatively easy cosmetic dental procedure and does not cost much.
- It is perfect for cosmetic purposes and corrects issues such as chipped, broken or discoloured teeth.
- It can help fill up the space between the teeth.
- It makes your teeth look longer, shinier and improves the shape and colour of the teeth.
- It can be used as a simple alternative to filling.
- It can be used to protect the exposed part of the tooth’s root when you’re suffering from a gum disease.
HOW DOES TEETH BONDING WORK?
Teeth bonding is basically a painless way to perform minor repairs to the teeth. A composite resin that has the same colour as the teeth are used to perform the bonding. This material is applied to the tooth and then shaped and hardened in place with the help of an LED beam.
This composite resin can be shaped to look the same as the missing part of a tooth that is broken or chipped. It matches the shape, design and colour of your teeth to perfection. It can fill up the gap between the teeth or build it up.
If the tooth is discoloured applying the resin as paint can help restore the original colour of the teeth. Also, when the composite resin is applied to the broken or chipped tooth, it can help restore it to its original shape and size.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Dental bonding typically lasts for several years. However, it is not as strong as natural teeth, so it is more susceptible to chipping and breaking.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Teeth bonding is not a particularly painful procedure, although some patients may experience some discomfort during the process. The level of discomfort will vary from patient to patient, and will depend on the extent of the procedure. Generally, dental bonding is considered to be a relatively minor dental procedure.

BONDING PROCESS AT WESTGATE DENTAL CENTRE
The first step is the consultation with a dentist at our Maple Ridge dental clinic, during which the dentist will discuss the procedure with you. You will be shown a shade guide so that you can choose the right composite resin colour that matches the colour of your teeth.
First, the tooth is coated with a conditioning liquid. The dentist prepares the composite resin using a systematic procedure. Once prepared, the resin is applied to your teeth. The dentist moulds and shapes the resin so that it is of the right size and shape and hardens it by using a strong beam of light.
The entire procedure takes only 30 to 60 minutes of your time. If you want the dental bonding to be applied to more teeth, then you may have to fix additional appointments with your dentist.
